Presentation “Young in Europe: Sibiu meets Deventer” (Sibiu ECC 2007)
On 22nd May 2007 the presentation of the project “Young in Europe: Sibiu (Romania) meets Deventer (The Netherlands)” will took place in Sibiu City Hall.
The project is part of the official programme Sibiu European Cultural Capital 2007 and will be executed from 11th till 20th August 2007 in Sibiu. It is a social-cultural programme by young people from both cities. Eighteen parts, in totally sixty talented young people, will represent the town of Deventer, a twinning town of Sibiu.
Events will take place in different sections as music, theatre and dance, film and photography, digital art with co-productions between participants from both regions. The project also contains debates and workshops with students about themes for young people in actuel and future Europe.
On Sunday-afternoon 1st July 2007 the presentation of the project will take place in Deventer; the Dutch participants, travelling to Sibiu this summer, will be introduced to the audience.

Organisation
In August the events will take place on indoor and outdoor venues in the old city centre of Sibiu, in the neighbourhoods and some villages around. Central meetingpoint will be a temporarely so called “Dutch House” in the renovated Theatre GONG in the city centre of Sibiu. Financial contributions will come a.o. from the Association Sibiu 2007, the Royal Netherlands Embassy in Bucharest, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs from the Netherlands and the Municipality of Deventer.
The Romanian international passengers transport company Atlassib will sponsor and take care of the transport of the Dutch participants.
The organisation of the project is by Foundation NetSib in co-operation with the Municipality of Deventer, Culture House Sibiu and Programme Office Sibiu ECC 2007. Partners in the project on Dutch side are a.o. Saxion University, Production House East-Netherlands, Poppodium Burgerweeshuis, Foundation Deventer Popcollectief, De Leeuwenkuil Centre for Arts, Film House De Keizer, Municipality of Deventer.
Programme
The participants on Dutch side are nominated and selected, based on specific criteria.
Participants are in the sections debates: students Studium Generale Saxion University, music: The Freaks, Next Waste Dimension, Thinktank, Da Floawaz, Reality Brass Band, DJ’s, Simeon Kwartet, The Young Canto Players, theatre and dance: Ill Skill Squad, Amuka en Tam Tam, film and photography: Rowdy Pelgrim, Film House De Keizer and Rob Philip, digital art: Ontwerpatelier&DesignArbeid, the C3 Art project (Connecting Cultural Capitals) by Sebiha Demir, Bart Folmer and Patrick Mangnus and Red Wig by Sebiha Demir and Francisca Barker.
There will be co-productions, workshops and common performances by Dutch and Romanian groups. Crossovers with f.i. folk- and breakdance, gipsy music and hiphop and percussion. Some special piano concerts by young Dutch and Romanian pianists, who will play Canto Ostinato by Simeon ten Holt. The Simeon Kwartet will play Canto Ostinato with VJ performance. Also objects theatre, actual Dutch movies like “Zwartboek”, photo-exhibitions, video-productions and digital art are part of the programme. The project will take place in a social-societal context, part of the activities will be in disadvantaged neighbourhoods. Also workshops with African basic dance will be given in institutions for handicapped people.
